Lincoln castle

The great thing about performing in a city like Lincoln is the background of the location throughout history. Since medieval times, Lincoln has been one of England’s most important cities, both culturally and financially. One only has to look at architecture such as the Cathedral and Lincoln castle to realise that this is a city with no small signifigance to England’s culture. Some examples of the city’s contribution can be seen in its financial support of William the Conqueror’s reign and the manufacture of the first tanks to be used by the English in World War 1, and the same factories creating advanced agricultural machines.

What this means when performing in the Usher Gallery and The Collection is that, being venues concerned with the preservation of history and culture, we can really showcase the history that surrounds the audience even as they watch the performance. Although performing in a town with such history is enough to explore any area of its past, the venues we are perfroming in focus on specific periods of time, such as the Roman occupation and the Medieval Era. As such, it would be fitting to perform pieces relevant to these periods, as they can be staged in their respective sections of the museum and gallery so as to fully draw the audience into the piece.
