The introduction in Mike Pearson’s Site Specific Performance talks about many peoples different ideas about what site specific performance actually is.

The one view of site specific performance that I found the most interesting was just a small sentence that the artist and academic Sue Palmer made. This was that it is not just about the specific location but also about the people who normally inhabit the space as the space “‘wouldn’t exist without them'”. (Pearson, 2010, 8)

I think this is quite true of a gallery. There would not be much point to a gallery if there were no people to view the exhibitions.
