For our first performance pitch idea we started off with our aims, which are that we want to look at the social conventions of art galleries. During our visits to the gallery we realised that we felt there were certain ways that we needed to act otherwise people would look at us or we would think people were looking at us. Such as how we felt we had to be extra quiet when walking around the gallery which restricted how we expressed our thoughts about the art. There are also many restrictions with technology.

As a group we wanted to look at how we can represent the opposite of these conventions. Our original idea that we pitched we wanted to do three solo performances that all work towards the same goal.

Ryan Watson – was wanting to focus on how people express sexuality in public and the sexuality in the paintings

Kate Beresford – was looking at how these conventions in a gallery means that they cannot show how the work makes them feel because of the silent atmosphere.

Kate Kelly – was looking at volumes in the gallery looking at rude behaviour in a gallery like answering phone calls and walking loudly around the gallery.

We wanted to document the process by the public writing their opinions on our actions on post it notes and the sticking it on us. We would also document our process getting to that point by interviewing the general public on how the feel they need to act in galleries to inspire how we act in our performance.

We would each take a room in the art gallery that would be our space and would relate to the area of social conventions we were looking at.

Our performance would last in between 30 to 60 minutes as that is the length of time it would take on average to walk around the gallery, as we would be represent the average member of the public walking around the gallery.

We have since gotten feedback on our idea and have rethought sections of our performance and are re-pitching our new ideas to the module leader.
