Gallery

A quick google search of The Usher Gallery in Lincoln brings up a series of images of the building, both inside and out. Because of this, anyone with a computer can get a pretty comprehensive impression of the gallery, as well as the exhibits on display. Despite this, I have never been to the gallery and not seen people there. And it is not just the older generation, as one might expect, but family’s, young adults and teenagers. There must therefore be something other than simply seeing the art that draws the audiences there, as many of them no doubt have the technical know how to find the images online. The majority of art on display is not well known across the country, and is mostly donated from the Gallery’s namesake patron: James Ward Usher. James Usher was a prominent figure in Lincoln for the majority of his life, up until his death  in 1921. The Usher Gallery, therefore, represents a significant part of Lincoln’s cultural heritage. As such, it seems that many Lincolnites are interested in learning about and being a part of their culture. The Usher Gallery is also a popular field trip location for schools, making it a community fixture for all generations.
